Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar, an American and British sitar artist. She was the first person in her age group to be a member of an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka is a rising star in Indian sitar. She is a student as well as daughter to Ravi Shankar. Her childhood was spent bouncing between London and New Delhi. In the age of thirteen she performed her debut performance in New Delhi. In the following years, in Encinitas CA she attended high school, graduating with distinction in 1999. Anouskha even though she is just an teen, has enjoyed an impressive recording and performing career. She performs regularly alongside her father and has been doing so for a long time years. In 1998 she released her debut self-titled album Anourag. It was followed by the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years later. The stage work she has done is vast as she has performed in most of the world's major venues. Anoushka Shankar's work isn't only limited to performing in music. Bapi The Love of My Life is a illustrated biographical work that she composed in 2002. It is a tribute to her late father Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her starred in Dance Like a Man as a Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging superstar and her fame will keep on growing. Anoushka Shankar is an English born musician who spent her early days between London, Delhi and California. At the age of nine, she began her studies in music under her father, who made her debut on the sitar four years later, at his birthday party in Delhi. Anoushka gained a lot of experience by touring across the globe with her father. She appeared at Carnegie Hall in her teenage period, as well as recorded for George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. She was the only female to receive the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament for her artistry and musicianship as a preeminent musician of music in Asian Arts.
